No wonder the world thinks we are stupid; we take our dolts and put them on exhibition! Tonight I was watching Law and Order and a commercial came on for Jay Leno’s new show. In one segment he goes around asking people on the street questions, here are a few examples:
Jay asks one lady to complete the line, “Four score and seven years ago our fathers” the correct response is “brought forth upon this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” Her response? “Who art in heaven….” She took one of the most moving and riveting speeches ever given in American history – a speech dedicated to brave and courageous men and screwed it up. Thanks lady. I am sure Abe loves you too. Wait, she probably needs a refresher course on who he is too. Grade school history lesson anyone?
If that is not bad enough, he has another young woman stand by an American flag. He asks her how many stars are on the American flag. The correct response is 50, one for each state. (For extra credit there are 13 stripes, one for each colony). Her response? “I can’t count them, it’s moving too fast.”
Are we serious? This crap is funny? Since when is putting all the idiots on the front porch for the entire world to see good times?
It’s one thing to have our celebrities do stupid crap. (I would list a few, by why? It’s not you haven’t seen their name in print, or in some cases, their hoo ha.) But for the normal citizen to go on TV and act that way, or worse to have to intentionally exploit them for the sake of humor is just stupid and demeaning to the American image that our parents and grandparents worked so hard to achieve.
